How   nomadwill.com  was   born

2/28/2016

Hello! While I keep working on the updates, I considered that a small article about how, for what and why this web was made!
Imagen
It all started many years ago, after 2012 I started travelling every month more or less to somewhere in Europe, and after my trips, friends and family were asking me about tips and where to go and so on in those places… I love to talk, a lot, but repeating same things over and over again tires everyone, so I started to consider writing about it. But you can read about why better in the about section, this article will tell about how was it made and for what.

So after I settled in my new home, Bratislava, I felt that it was time to start with the website… but of course I had no idea where to begin:
  • The Content
This was of course, the most important part, I wanted to write useful things, I guess people who don’t know me doesn’t give a shit about my life (which is kinda obvious), so writing a public traveling diary seemed stupid and boring for me, because even If I like traveling a lot, I really don’t enjoy reading over-exaggerated experiences of other people.
So, the content was going to be objective, and so it began, Cheap Guides and Useful info featured nice informative articles which got a great feedback so I keep posting more and more. I even created the Erasmus Guide for Bratislava, to help all those Erasmus who doesn’t know what to do there and also for those Slovaks who don’t know the wonders that are just few kilometers from the city.
It wasn’t until this Blog section when I decided to write more openly, but this is like the 20% of website core, and totally optional, so I think 60% info 20% photos 20% random stuff is a good proportion.
  • The Logo
Imagen
I wanted a striking logo that reminds of traveling but following the actual trends of minimalistic and simple design. So I started right away with a compass (1), in fact it was the PowerPoint pre-designed image (although it was just for inspiration)… but I felt that it was too simple and nothing special, then I checked in internet to find some cooler compass, like this one (2) but it didn’t convince me, finally, I came across this logo (3) which was supposed to be for some kind of restaurant, but I liked the pointing forks and spoons going from it, and I even tried to adapt it…, but I got tired of trying and decided to make it from scratch, and bigger, so after some hours I made the definitive logo (4), and some months later I added the name to it.
  • The Ratings
I didn’t know how big was going to be the audience, that’s why I mainly wrote in English not in my mother tongue, Spanish, and it started quite ok, with a small but solid fan base on Facebook and positive comments, but then of course, since I was totally new, it somehow shocked me that even if my site (back then) got around 10-15 different visitors every day, and almost no comments or likes, later on, as I spoke with other webmasters they told me it is pretty normal, since for average sites and small business the rates go around 1 like per 20 readings or watches, and since I’m not doing viral videos of cats, it adapted pretty well to reality. Now (Feb 2016) I’m getting 20-25 different visitors every day, which is pretty good for an amateur. The most visited sections are Bratislava Guide for Erasmus and Cheap Guides.
  • The Updates
I continue working in order to keep the web kind of updated, also recently I changed the main theme of the site, making it cleaner and more modern (you can see all the previous designs I went through), but also with more sections!!

I wanted to show some of my pictures too, and the best way was to post them here, and that will be the thing for 2016, new Blog article monthly and Photo albums from time to time!
And now is there even a video!
